Guadalupe County Sheriff's Deputy arrested, resigns following child sex abuse charges

Joshua Hernandez

(Seguin) — After months of investigation, a Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Deputy has been arrested and is now facing charges of child sex abuse in Comal County.

Guadalupe County Sheriff Arnold Zwicke says Investigator Joshua Hernandez was arrested Wednesday after being indicted on two counts of indecency with a child. Those counts include sexual contact and continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14 years old.

Zwicke says although he was made aware of the allegations this past spring, he didn’t know the results of that investigation until he was notified of his arrest.

“He notified me in April that he was going through a divorce and that these allegations were made and that there may be an investigation. We never heard anymore about an investigation and then yesterday (Wednesday) he was arrested,” said Zwicke. “No one contacted our agency in reference to an investigation. He had advised us that he was told there was going to be one and we advised him to let us know where it went.”

The arrest comes after Hernandez was indicted by a Comal County Grand Jury on Sept. 1. He was reportedly released the same day after posting a pair of bonds. The first was $25,000 on the continuous sexual abuse charge and a $15,000 personal recognizance bond for the charge of indecency with a child.

Zwicke says Hernandez submitted his resignation to his office Thursday afternoon. Hernandez was a 10 year veteran of the sheriff’s office having most recently served in the narcotics DEA division.
