Unattended candle fire causes more than $200K in damage to Montgomery Co. home

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) —
Residents escaped a Montgomery County house fire late Thursday night.

According to a spokesperson for Montgomery County (MD) Fire & Rescue, crews responded to the 400 block of Hannes Street, Northwood Forest/Kemp Mill around 11 p.m.
Fire officials say an unattended candle ignited linen shelving covers and other combustible materials inside the basement of the home. One resident who was sleeping during the fire was awoken by another resident and both jumped out the bedroom window.

The fire caused more than $200,000 in damages.
