Many years ago, I attended the 100th Great Frederick Fair as a 4H member showing a jersey heifer. Subsequently, several of my children showed 4H steers.
I love going to the fair and seeing the hardworking youth with their 4H projects, so I was saddened to hear that 4H and the fair have separated. I have no idea who or what is responsible for this breach of a longtime relationship, but I do think it is time the parties patched things up.
wondering if the out-of-town "animal rights" activists that drove the Lamberts and their horse-drawn carriages out of town went after the fair for "animal abuse"
Webster definition : a fair usually held annually at a set location in a county especially to exhibit local agricultural products and livestock
The main reason I ever took my children or grandchildren to the fair was to view the livestock. Without the livestock it is not a fair. Interesting a person with your connection to the community and the 4H organization has no idea who is responsible for this separation. Tis a shame.;
I totally agree. To me, the best part of the fair was the livestock and no one knows livestock and rewarding youth in that arena better than 4H. The educational exhibits, seeing the youth exhibits and prized livestock was the pinnacle of the fair. While I believe an entrants to the fair such as baked goods and flowers. Etc are fascinating as well. For me it isn’t the carnie aspect of the fair but that does lend to fun for all.
I wonder though, what caused the schism? I hope the fair was not going to take a portion of the youth’s prize money. I’d heard a rumor about this. Nevertheless, to me the fair is not the “Great Frederick Fair” without the 4H
I think there was a previous letter attempting to explain what happened. I don’t remember exactly, it probably was tmi for my casual level of interest. This letter probably represents more people: “just fix it.” Spare the details.

Nope. Anyone who wants to exhibit livestock at the fair is free to do so.

Is there anything preventing someone who happens to belong to 4H,or anyone else for that matter, from exhibiting their livestock at the GFF?
