Women's Soccer Move Up In Regional Rankings

KANSAS CITY, MO.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team has moved up to No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches South Region Poll. It is the highest the team's been ranked regionally during head coach Chris Gnehm's tenure. 

A pair of extra-time wins at home put the Sailfish at a 2-1 record for the season. The 'Fish started their 2021 campaign with a dramatic overtime win against Maryville 1-0 on Sep.3rd. Goalkeeper Rachel Neumann made her first start for the Sailfish and recorded six saves. With under three minutes left in the second overtime period, Michaela Boyd crossed the ball to Alicia Drott for the bicycle-kick finish.

PBA's last appearance on the pitch featured a 2-1 victory over Delta State. The golden goal came off a free kick from senior midfielder Sydney Timmes. Timmes' game-winning goal was her first with the Sailfish while Neumann made her second start of the season, earning the win and recording one save in net. 

Other SSC conference members that appeared in the United Soccer Coaches South Region Poll include No. 2 Florida Tech, No. 6 Embry-Riddle, No. 8 Nova Southeastern, and No. 9 Lynn University. 

The Sailfish play at home against Florida Memorial on Thursday, Sep.16. PBA starts conference play Saturday Sep.18 on the road at Florida Southern.
