Multnomah County leaders say it's going to take a community effort to stop gun violence in Portland, and they're taking a big step to educate the community about the issue.
On Thursday, District Attorney Mike Schmidt introduced the new Firearms Data Dashboard.
It's a resource that allows anyone to learn more about gun violence in the area.
You can look up cases or statistics by date, location, race, and gender of any victim.
Schmidt says this new tool will help inform the public on gun policy and give them a way to track progress.
In an interview with KATU earlier this month, he emphasized the importance of an inclusive approach to combating the violence.
“That takes collaborating at every level, putting all of our resources towards solving the most violent crime and then working on rebuilding trust in our community with law enforcement, because we need people to help us. We can't make cases without witnesses and victims coming forward,” he said.
