60 pounds of meth, 25k fentanyl pills seized in Salinas multi-agency raid
Good evening everyone, I'm dan Green, Aaron Clark's off tonight. We are starting this evening with what many are calling one of the largest drug busts in Monterey county history. Nearly $2 million worth of illegal drugs taken off the streets by Salinas police and federal agents. The crackdown from action. News reporter Felix Cortez live outside Salinas pd Felix. Well dan that operation or rather that crackdown was dubbed Operation Black Hawk and it stretched across state lines and operations so big that even veteran police officers can't remember so many drugs being taken off the streets. My understanding is one of the largest seizures in Monterey County. Selena's police hauling in one of the largest drug busts in Monterey county history, £60 of methamphetamine, nearly £7 of cocaine and heroin along with 25,000 fentaNYL pills. Street value of the drugs. Nearly $2 million dollars simply put This operation saved lives the good guys one today. The good guys won the months long investigation dubbed Operation Blackhawk involved more than 170 local state and federal agents who served search warrants and Selena's and Yuma Arizona eight people arrested now facing drug charges, gang enhancements and conspiracy to commit murder. I can tell you I've been a police officer 25 years. He's probably one of the largest operations that I've seen completed by a unit like the detective's unit. Normally, operations like these are done at the federal level just because of the resources they have available to them. So kudos to our detectives for bringing this to a successful conclusion Salinas police say Castroville based trucking company called NorCal Transportation was at the heart of the drug operation. The owners accused of conspiring with the local gang and a deadly mexican drug cartel to transport drugs to the central coast. We believe that NorCal trucking was acquiring their drugs from the cartel who was transporting them across the border and their responsibility. Their role was to transport them from huma to our location. When one of the trucks was searched, most of the drugs were found hidden in a tire. The investigation ongoing. This is just the beginning. We will continue on the same path because we will keep our community safe and again, this is still a very active investigation investigators not ruling out the possibility that more arrests may follow. And also today the Department of Justice announcing another huge crackdown on gangs and their illegal activities. That operation was dubbed Operation Quiet Storm and that's being described As one of the largest gang takedowns in FBI History of the San Francisco Division 55 alleged gang members charged with racketeering drug and gun trafficking. The gangs targeted in this operation are responsible for much of the illicit drug distribution and violent crime that has plagued areas in the South Bay, Selena's in the Central Valley for years. So again, two very large operations cracking down on gangs and their activity here on the central coast and in northern California in the process, taking their guns, drugs and money off the streets, dan, thank you Felix.
