MU represented at Milwaukee Tennis Classic, Drake Invite

The Marquette University men's and women's tennis teams open their respective 2021-22 campaigns this weekend with action at a pair of tournaments.

Both programs will be represented at the 45th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Sept. 18-20.  This year's MTC will feature a 32-player draw for singles and 16-team draw in doubles and the men's draw will be played at the Milwaukee Country Club and the women's bracket at Western Racquet Club.

Each team will send at least two players to the MTC and the remaining members of the men's team will travel to the Drake Invitational (Sept. 17-19) to compete in singles and doubles action.

"We haven't had much time on the practice courts, but our team is eager to get back into competition," director of tennis Steve Rodecap said.  "The fall portion of the season is always a great time to focus on individual improvement and with so many returning players, their experience is going to only help in skill development."

The men's squad returns 11 letterwinners from last season, including No. 1 player Fran San Andres, who was 12-2 in dual competition in 2020-21.  Nine letterwinners return from last year's women's team, including the entire dual lineup.

This weekend's action will be the first fall tournament for both teams since 2019 after the 2020 events were cancelled due to COVID-19.
