Game Notes

The Washington Mystics (12-18) are facing the New York Liberty (11-20) on the road Friday night. Both teams have matched up twice already this season, resulting in a split. Washington blew out the Liberty in May 101-72. Tina Charles and Ariel Atkins combined for 59 points. The Liberty beat the Mystics the second time around in July 82-79 despite Charles having a solid performance. The former Liberty star left it all on the floor, putting up team-highs in points (31) and rebounds (16). She was the only Mystics player to score or rebound in double-digits.

The Mystics are currently ranked 8th in league standings and if they win tomorrow, they’ll make the playoffs. Myisha Hines Allen, who was out with an illness, and Ariel Atkins, who took time away for personal reasons, are expected to suit up for the game. Unfortunately for the team, Elena Delle Donne did not practice today and will not be with the team in New York, according to the Washington Post’s Kareem Copeland.

The Mystics have shown a ton of fight this season as they have battled through injuries, illnesses and personal matters. It all comes down to two games left in the regular season. Don’t count them out just yet.
