Biden administration tells governors how many Afghan refugees will come to Rhode Island and Massachusetts

Update On Afghanistan

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Officials have now announced how many Afghan refugees will be coming to Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Rhode Island will be getting 150, and 900 will be going to Massachusetts.

The Biden administration began notifying governors of these plans Wednesday night.

Every evacuee will get just over 12 hundred dollars from the federal government to help with rent.

They will also go through security and health screenings before being relocated.

A spokesperson for Governor Charlie Baker told ABC6 the administration is “still awaiting further details from the federal government as to where and when they would arrive.”

Governor McKee’s office had a similar message, saying not many details are available right now.
