NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- After COVID-19 took the event away last year, the 95th annual Feast of San Gennaro got under way Thursday in Little Italy.

The Mulberry Street festival carried plenty of excitement from vendors happy to be back celebrating Italian culture, and of course, food.

A statue of San Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples, was carried up Mulberry Street to officially open up what’s known as “the feast of all feasts.”

Those who want to be part of the festivities need to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test.

While shop owners were excited to see the neighborhood thriving, they’re hoping the festival sparks an uptick in business going forward.

A handful of special events are planned — including cannoli, pizza, zeppole and meatball eating competitions and musical performances.

The festivities continue through Sept. 26.
