Two people killed in a Yazoo City officer-involved shooting have been identified.
Coroner Ricky Shivers said the two killed are Katrina Simpson and Timothy Grayson. He did not have the specific ages of the deceased.
Yazoo County Sheriff Jacob Sheriff was at the scene Thursday afternoon, which witnesses said was near the Jr Food Mart on Broadway Street. Sheriff confirmed that an officer was involved, but he did not give specifics. Sheriff said there was a large crowd at the scene, which law enforcement was working to disperse.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene and through protocol, will likely take over the investigation.
A woman who came to the scene said her daughter was one of the victims and that she had been kidnapped.
"He had robbed a bank, and we didn't know it until today. Lady said he had robbed a bank. He had her hostage in the car when he saw the police, and he wouldn't let her stop the car," said Leegertha Simpson.
Simpson said she believes the man who took her daughter hostage killed her before police shot him.
