The Yankees are in desperate need of some bullpen help, and their best reliever will take a big step towards making his return on Friday.

Aaron Boone told reporters before Thursday’s series finale against the Orioles that Jonathan Loaisiga is set to start throwing on Friday, which will be for the first time since he was placed on the IL with a strained rotator cuff.

Loaisiga has been New York’s most reliable bullpen arm this season, holding a 2.25 ERA with 66 strikeouts over 68 innings of work, more than double his previous highwater mark.

Jameson Taillon pitched a bullpen session on Wednesday as he looks to work his way back from an ankle injury, and the righty told the YES Network that he responded well after that bullpen, and could throw another this weekend. Taillon has pitched to a 4.41 ERA in 27 starts this season.
