AUBURNDALE, WI (OnFocus) – The Auburndale School Forest will be the location to be if you’re looking for family fun this fall.

Throughout the summer, the forest has experienced some upgrades including a new pathway helping visitors get around the premises.

Another new addition this year is Jordan’s Bridge, which is ADA accessible and provides lots of photo opportunities. The bridge was a donation from Heiman Holsteins and Haas Builders Supply.

During summer, a sunflower patch bloomed allowing picture takers and flower-lovers alike to visit the forest and see over 90,000 sunflowers.

Now, the forest grounds are filled with corn as Auburndale Agriculture Teacher Mark Cournoyer and his crew have set up an hour-long corn maze.

The corn maze was designed by Kyrsten Richardson and cut out by Cournoyer and a few helpers in July. Wade Oehmichen overlaid the design on a google map that you can use with the QR Code on the welcome sign.

In October, the forest will welcome the second annual Pumpkin Glow which features concessions, 250 pumpkins and tiki lights, and glow-in-the-dark rocks.

This year, the forest is donating money raised through voluntary donations to Toys for Tots. After the corn maze is taken down around Halloween, the corn will be harvested and combined with the sunflowers from this summer to create bird seed to be sold for additional donations to Toys for Tots.

Cournoyer said he’s really proud of what the forest has become and the ability it has to provide enjoyment to anyone.

“The forest is ‘come as you are’ and make it your own adventure which is the beauty of it,” Cournoyer said. “It’s something that we’re rather proud of that this is something that anybody can partake in.”
