There's a new traffic pattern in Rochester - and it took motorists some getting used to Friday morning.
The I-390 flyover has opened to allow southbound traffic to travel over the I-490 interchange.
At times, traffic approaching the flyover was nearly at a standstill as drivers shifted their usual commute, but the hope is it eases congestion eventually.
“The new flyover is a major achievement for Rochester-area commuters,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement, “and it demonstrates how the entire I-390/I-490 Interchange Project will be a game changer for Monroe County, allowing people to get where they need go safer and with fewer delays.”
Work first began on the improvement project in 2016 and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
