At least a dozen South Carolina groups will gather Friday at the Statehouse to urge the passage of voting rights legislation at the federal level.
Groups will encourage the Freedom to Vote Act, a piece of legislation that hopes to protect all Americans' ability to vote.
Speakers will include April Richardson of Black Voters Matter, Elder James Johnson of the Racial Justice Network, Lawrence Moore of Carolina for All and more.
Voting rights legislation has failed to clear U.S. Congress. The last attempt, the For the People Act, was blocked by a filibuster in the Senate earlier this summer.
Friday's rally will take place in front of the monument to Strom Thurmond, the famous U.S. Senator who conducted a 24-hour filibuster against the Civil Rights Act of 1957.
