CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Families in a townhome community in North Charlotte are scrambling to find another place to live after being told they have to move out.

Earlier this month, RuBec Properties notified 18 tenants at Derita Townhomes to vacate the property by Sept. 30 while renovations are being performed. The repairs will address potential electrical and plumbing code issues and won’t be finished until June 2022.

“Right now, I’m worried about being homeless. That’s what I’m worried about,” Detrian Cloud told Channel 9′s Gina Esposito. Cloud is a quadriplegic who has lived at the townhomes for five years.
