Remember back at the beginning of the season (you know, about 6 years ago?), when the Cubs had rubber match after rubber match after rubber match? They didn’t win a lot of them early on, but they had a ton of them.
Tonight’s rubber match will be started by Kyle Hendricks, coming off a nice bounce back game against the Giants, holding them to just one earned run on 4 hits and 2 walks over 6.0 innings. He needed that one, because his two starts before that featured 14 earned runs in 9.0 IP.
At this point, you just hope Hendricks finishes the season feeling good and looking strong/healthy. The performance is a concern overall, but given the organizational transition mid-season and the shortened season last year, I think it’s all understandable.
Go Cubs.
