1 dead, 3 hospitalized after crash on Kansas highway

NEOSHO COUNTY—One person died in an accident just after 6:30a.m. Thursday in Neosho County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2009 Hyundai Accent driven by Hazel Evelene Burgess, 78, Imboden, Arkansas, was northbound on U.S. 59 at Kansas 39 Highway. 

The driver failed to yield to an eastbound 2006 Nissan Altima driven by  Diego Perez, 35, Crete, Nebraska.

Burgess was pronounced dead at the scene. 

EMS transported Perez, a passenger in the Hyundai Glenn E. Burgess, 39, Imboden, Arkansas, and a passenger in the Nissan Raymundo Perez Mendez, 26, Crete, Nebraska, to the Neosho County Hospital. The KHP did not have complete seat belt usage information.
