Rebuilding after a fire, embezzlement by one's own, and COVID-19; It might sound like a modern-day, biblical plague to test one's faith.
That's exactly what one Tri-State church has endured during the past five years.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created challenges for churches throughout the world.
But if there's any church in the Tri-State that's seen its fair share of challenges in recent years, it's none other than Antioch Baptist Church near Hannibal.
"It was devastating not only to the structure, but it was hard on the congregation," said Pastor Jack Emmite.
A fire destroyed the historic church building, which wasn't as devastating as when members found out their long-time treasurer was arrested for embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars.
"We all pulled together. We're meeting on regular prayer meetings, especially right after the fire," said Pastor Emmite. He said members never lost sight of rebuilding and strengthening their faith during trying times.
"The Lord provided all of the funding we don't owe anything on the building the lords blessed us, so we were excited not only are we going to celebrate 150 years, but we're going to do it in a brand new facility," said Emmite.
A 150th-anniversary celebration is planned this weekend to celebrate the church's past and future.
"We have a lot of different folks that will be sharing memories, and they'll be some music," said Emmite.
Followed by a special worship service on Sunday.
"We have our services, then end it with a lunch right after our services," said Emmite.
For those interested Saturday, you can come from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and Sunday 10:45 to Noon with lunch following after.
