Aaron Rodgers Says Packers Won't Be 'Held Prisoner' by Blowout Loss to Saints

Aaron Rodgers isn't sweating the Green Bay Packers' blowout 38-3 loss vs. the New Orleans Saints in Week 1.

The defending MVP told reporters the Packers won't be "held prisoner" by the result and still believes they have a good team.

"If we start to freak out after one week, we're in trouble," he added.

The good news for the Packers is that it's hard to imagine them being much worse. They were held to 229 total yards, turned the ball over three times, were 1-of-10 on third downs and had just 25 minutes and 24 seconds of possession.

Green Bay was poor on both sides of the ball. The defense was gashed to the tune of 171 rushing yards, didn't sack Jameis Winston once, didn't force a single turnover and allowed four touchdowns in the Saints' four red-zone possessions.

"This is a good kick in the you-know-where," Rodgers told reporters after the game. "We felt like we were going to go up and down the field on whoever they have and that obviously wasn't the case."

"Every team has a game like this," running back Aaron Jones added. "It's better to get it out now."

The Packers will get the Detroit Lions up next, which might help them to get back on the right track. They'll also get an extra day to prepare, with the game coming on a Monday night. And the Packers have responded well to adversity in the Matt LaFleur era, going 6-0 after losses under his watch.

"We've just got to get back to work, and we've got to stay resilient. We've got to stay together," LaFleur told reporters. "It's one game, and that's the beauty of the National Football League, nobody's going to feel sorry for you, and you better not feel sorry for yourself."

A loss vs. Detroit would put the Packers in some serious trouble, however, with tough matchups against the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers looming.
