Evacuation orders lifted after suspicious package investigation in downtown Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara police lifted evacuation orders following a suspicious package investigation downtown Thursday morning.

Police responded to reports of a suspicious package near the Santa Barbara City Attorney's Office around 9:30 a.m.

Police arrived at De La Guerra Plaza to search the area.

The Santa Barbara County Bomb Squad was also notified and responded.

Notifications were sent to businesses in the surrounding areas that needed to be evacuated.

Police blocked off the area to pedestrians and drivers.

Police retrieved the package around 12 p.m. and deemed the box not dangerous after a portable x-ray device scanned the box.

Police found that the box contained clothing items.
