CBJ's CFO of the Year Awards program recognizes top financial executives for local companies. These are the 2021 finalists.

It's not the high-profile role of a CEO, but the people in this position are just as important to a company's bottom line. They're the number-crunchers, the ones making tough calls where spending and saving is concerned.

CBJ seeks to put a spotlight on the Charlotte area's brightest financial executives through the CFO of the Year Awards program. Those recognized in this signature awards program live and work in the region, and each has held the title of chief financial executive — or an equivalent position, such as treasurer — for at least three years.

The 2021 class of honorees is led by Daryl Bible, CFO of Truist Financial Corp. (NYSE: TFC), who is this year's Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.

As the top financial executive at Winston-Salem's BB&T Corp. since 2009, Bible was a key leader in the company's merger a decade later with SunTrust Banks Inc. of Atlanta. That $66 billion merger resulted in the formation of Truist, which has established its headquarters in Charlotte. Bible remains as CFO under Bill Rogers, who just took the helm as CEO.

Prior to his arrival at BB&T, Bible had been at U.S. Bancorp, where he was treasurer for 10 of the 24 years he was with the company.
