Lucifer just dethroned Clickbait and claimed a highly coveted honor on Netflix.
The popular series just landed the number one spot on the streaming service’s list of most-watched shows. (It’s currently ranked ahead of Clickbait, The Circle, Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror, Cocomelon and Manifest.) The news shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, especially since Lucifer recently dropped its sixth—and final—season.
The series (which is based on characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg) follows Lucifer (Tom Ellis), AKA the devil, who has become dissatisfied with his life in hell and decides to pick up and move to California.
The new season shows Lucifer embarking on his latest endeavor, which includes taking over the role of God. “It’s time for you to assume your place on Father’s throne,” someone says in the trailer. The problem is: Is now the right time for Lucifer?
“What’s the rush? Becoming God is a big job. Maybe he doesn’t want to go in half-cocked,” another person adds. To which Lucifer responds, “I should definitely be full-cocked.”
In addition to Ellis, the series also stars Lauren German (A Walk to Remember), Lesley-Ann Brandt (Gotham), D.B. Woodside (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Scarlett Estevez (Daddy’s Home), Tricia Helfer (Walk All Over Me) and Kevin Alejandro (True Blood).
Lucifer originally premiered back in 2016 on Fox and was later picked up by Netflix for season three. Since then, it has become one of the streaming service’s most successful original series. (It even has an impressive score of 86 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.)
