UPDATE: 18-year-old charged with negligent injury in shooting of juvenile at home under construction

UPDATE, 4 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 16: Police have charged the 18-year-old involved in the shooting with negligent injury. He has been identified as Jyron Johnson.

Just before 1 a.m. Thursday, Lafayette police responded to a call of shots fired on the 400 block of Martin Oaks Drive.

Detectives believe the possible drive-by shooting was in response to another shooting Monday night on Rue Viansa where a juvenile was injured.

CORRECTION: Lafayette Police said that only the juvenile was struck by gunfire. A previous version of the post reported that the 18-year-old was also shot, which was inaccurate. This post has been corrected.

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) Two people were transported to a local hospital after a gun discharged while they were inside a home under construction in Lafayette.

It happened late Wednesday in the 100 block of Rue Viansa.

Lafayette Police Spokesperson Cpl. Bridgette Dugas said an 18-year-old male and a juvenile were the only two people inside the home when the weapon discharged.

She said the juvenile was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No adults were present in the home, according to Dugas, who also said the home is newly developed and still under construction.

She did not release any additional information.

Dugas did not say if any charges would be filed.
