"We understand the impact these sites will have on our community. Since the beginning of this project, it has been our goal to involve local organizations, especially those that are minority owned and female owned, throughout the design and construction processes. We look forward to announcing the involvement of additional minority-owned, female-owned and small businesses as we move forward,” said John G. Morikis, Sherwin-Williams Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer.

According to Sherwin Williams, additional companies will be selected for more roles, such as design and landscape architects, as the project continues to progresses.

On Thursday, Dr. Charles Steele Jr., President and CEO of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference held a protest at Sherwin-Williams' Headquarters. The organization along with the Black Contractors Group alleges that Sherwin Williams has "failed to live up to its commitment with diversity, equity and inclusion on its proposed 36-story headquarters in downtown," a flyer for the protest read.

Sherwin-Williams envisions its headquarters in three parts: office tower, pavilion, and parking garage.

The new facility will be approximately 1 million square feet in size and located just west of Public Square between Saint Clair Avenue and Superior Avenue. The 36-story Headquarters Tower would become one of the tallest buildings in downtown Cleveland.

Sherwin-Williams plans to invest more than $300 million to build its new headquarters that will house more than 3,100 employees. The City of Cleveland estimates that when the buildings are completed and occupied, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District schools will receive approximately $4 million in additional annual revenue from Sherwin-Williams.
