Seven homes in the 2400 block of East 41st Street were evacuated Sept. 16 by order of Lorain firefighters after workers damaged a natural gas line while working on a curb project.
Fire officials were called to the scene at 11:28 a.m., according to Assistant fire Chief Jeff Fenn.
“We erred on the side of caution,” Fenn said in explaining his department’s decision to evacuate the seven homes near the gas leak.
Crews from Columbia Gas were called out to the scene.
Fenn said the hope is gas company workers will be able to quickly “mitigate” the situation and the evacuees can return to their residences.
