The most cases were recorded in the 16001 ZIP code in Butler County, where nearly 52% of residents have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine. The ZIP code lies within Butler Area School District, where 86 active cases were recorded as of Monday.

The most cases were at the high school. Superintendent Brian White told The Butler Eagle that some students refused to comply with the state’s recently implemented mask mandate for schools.

In Lancaster County, nearly 100 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized as of Wednesday. Lancaster Online reported the patient count is doubled that from four weeks ago.

In York County, Northern High School is remote through Tuesday due to the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases at the school, with several potential cases also documented. Northern York School District reported that more than 300 students were sent home during contact tracing when it looked into these cases.

The state Department of Health said Tuesday that just 3%, or 213, of the nearly 6,500 people in the state who died after vaccines became widely available were fully vaccinated.

Since January, 35,000 people were admitted to hospitals statewide with COVID-19, with 95% of those patients either unvaccinated or with just one dose of vaccine administered.
