Victim in Thursday’s fatal accident on Rt 481 in Oswego County identified

UPDATE: Police investigation into the crash has revealed that a 2021 Chevrolet Trax was traveling southbound on State Route 481 when it crossed into the northbound lane, hitting a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee head-on. 

The Chevrolet Trax was being driven by Dona Desantis, 70 of Syracuse, who was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Jeep was taken to Crouse Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and there were no passengers in either vehicle.

UPDATE: Rt 481 between the City of Fulton and Town of Volney has been reopened after being closed due to a deadly crash Thursday.


OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on State Route 481 north of the City of Fulton has closed a section of Route 481, according to the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident happened around 11:38 a.m. on Thursday and State Route 481 is expected to be closed for several hours between the City of Fulton and County Route 57 in the Town of Volney.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office have been assisted on scene by the Volney Volunteer Fire Department, Fulton City Fire Department, Menter Ambulance, the New York State Police and the Fulton City Police Department.
