CHICOPEE, Mass. - The city of Chicopee is seeing a rise in daily COVID-19 cases in the city and a number of young individuals are being infected.

In the city's weekly COVID-19 update, Mayor John Vieau reported Chicopee is currently averaging 25 cases per day, compared to 17 per day last week.

According to the city’s report, half of the daily cases are children in unvaccinated households with the youngest case being a nine month old.

Other cases include children between the ages of 4 to 12 and teenagers ages 14 to 18 years old.

The city is hosting a testing center on Monday at the RiverMills Senior Center. Members of the Chicopee police, fire and emergency department will be on site. Testing will run from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.

The city says they are willing to expand the hours or add more days to the testing center depending on the demand.
