The latest COVID-19 outbreak in Lane County is at South Hills Rehabilitation Center, which has 32 cases and one death, Lane County Public Health reported Wednesday.
22 of those cases were from the last 7 days.
Public Health says 88% of residents are vaccinated, compared to 64% of staff.
"That 64% is still lower than we would need to prevent transmission within staff," said Jason Davis with Lane County Public Health. "88% is a satisfactory number in the general populace but in long-term care facilities, when you combine that with the lower staff vaccination rate, it really does allow for that widespread transmission."
Public Health says breakthrough cases are more common in older people.
And Davis says vaccination rates have varied in long-term care facility staff.
Some facilities have vaccination rates in the 20% range, where others have upwards of 90%.
