Kentucky's legendary horse racing track honored two of its legends Thursday morning.
The late John Asher and Col. Matt Winn are now immortalized as statues inside Churchill Downs.
The bronze statues, created by artist Raymond Graf, show the two men sitting on benches, appearing to engage in conversation.
"We've got the storymaker and the storyteller," said former Churchill Downs President Kevin Flanery. "Let's put them together."
For those who don't know these two, Asher was the longtime face of the track, as Churchill Downs' Vice President of Racing Communications. He was known by many as "Mr. Kentucky Derby."
Asher died unexpectedly in 2018 at the age of 62 while vacationing in Florida. He earned numerous awards for his work in the industry.
Winn died in 1949 and is a former president of Churchill Downs, credited with making the Kentucky Derby famous.
The statues are located in the Saddling Paddock in the plaza of Churchill Downs.
"I'm thrilled people are going to be able to come here, learn about the importance of both Matt Winn and John Asher and take a picture behind the shadows of the iconic Twin Spires that both men loved so dearly," said Darren Rogers, Churchill Downs' Senior Director of Communications and Media Services.
