Conners fans won’t be left waiting for Dan and Louise to say “I do.”
As teased in TVLine’s annual Fall TV Preview, the newly engaged couple are moving full speed ahead with wedding planning. In fact, pending any last-minute scheduling changes by ABC, Dan will remarry before November Sweeps.
“There will be a huge wedding very shortly, within the first five episodes,” executive producer Bruce Helford tells TVLine. “[Fellow EP] Dave [Caplan] wrote the wedding episode. It’s great, and we’re really looking forward to it. It’s a complicated moment for the Conners, but it’s also a joyous moment.” The effects of the wedding, he says, play out over “multiple episodes.”
As a result of Dan and Louise’s tying the knot, Louise will (presumably) give up her apartment and move into the Conner home — and that, of course, comes with its own set of challenges. “If she’s going to move in, that would create lots of problems for Dan,” Helford teases, ever-so-coyly. “A person wants [a home] to be their own, and they want to make changes. That’s going to be very interesting, as to how Louise deals with that, and how Dan deals with that.”
We’ll also see how Louise’s relationships evolve with Dan’s adult children, now that she’s going to be their stepmother. “Because Louise kept herself one step removed by keeping her place — sometimes staying overnight and sometimes not — the family now has to start figuring out those interactions as they become more intimate and [see each other with] more regularity,” Helford says. Louise and Darlene, for example, are going to experience a change of sorts during the live (!) Season 4 premiere — “and there is going to be a continued change” as they become more involved in each other’s personal lives.
“Joining the Conner family is a tough thing,” Helford points out. “It’s a very tight-knit family, and when you marry someone with a tight-knit family, it’s hard to come in and not feel like an outsider.”
Despite Louise becoming an official Conner, portrayer Katey Sagal will remain a recurring guest star. But not to worry: Helford assures us that Sagal — who appeared in 10 of Season 3’s 20 episodes, while also headlining ABC’s since-cancelled Rebel — will appear “on a pretty regular basis” this year. “I don’t know if there’s an actual number,” he says, “but I know that she’s going to be in more than half the episodes.”
The Conners returns Wednesday, Sept. 22 (ABC, 9/8c). For additional scoop on Darlene and Ben, check out TVLine’s Fall TV Preview. (And for spoilers on Becky and Jackie, click here.)
At this point Katey should just become a main cast member. She’s been in 20+ episodes and now she’s married to Dan.
I think Katey is the one that doesn’t want that kind of commitment since she probably wants to pop up on other shows inhopefully juicier roles.
She looking for the last big check before she is stuck doing these supporting roles in old age. Happens all the time in Hollywood.
I hope Louise secretly keeps her own place, which is revealed towards the end of season 4. It’s been established that Louise is independent, and that she needs her own place for necessary respite from the Conner family. I like Louise and I’m a long time fan of Katey Sagal, and I like the storyline of Dan and Louise, but to keep it interesting I’d like to see them either 1. Stay married and live apart; 2. They both live at Louise’s and Louise can’t understand why Dan would keep his house just for his freeloading 40-something children; 3. Get divorced – they tried but just couldn’t make it work.
I’m down for any of those 3 options, too. Kinda disappointed that it seems like Louise will move in. I expected them to go with your #1 option.
She is too young for Dan. They just don’t go together. Roseanne and Dan was the perfect couple and it will never seem right Dan with another woman
Believe it or not, Katy is only 2 years younger than John Goodman and 1 year older than Laurie Metcalf. Katy looks fabulous at any age! Plus I always thought it was cool Katy was the older sister of twins Liz and Jean Saga who starred in the 80s sitcom Double Trouble
I would of loved it if Louise had an ex husband that comes and wants her back and the husband could of been ed o’neil or even if Louise real name ended up being Peggy and ed was Al it would of been really cool if they somehow brought the two shows together somehow. Or even if Louise was like Peggy twin sister and the Bundy clan came for the wedding
This is nice, but I’m still upset about Rebel :( lol
I grew up watching this show, I can’t get into now I miss Roseanne
I agree, we miss Rosanne too!! They need to have Dan wake up from a dream and tell Rosanne he has the urge to renew their vows……and bring back Rosanne! Bring her back, bring her back, bring her back.
No replacing Roseanne and face it look at Louise then Dan she is way out of his league period.
Not crazy about this. I don’t think they are a good fit. Guess it’s time to find another show to watch. Hated that Roseanne got booted, so I’m now done.
Louise isn’t the issue. I like her, but the show is becoming a complete downer. With Roseanne (the series, not necessarily the person), there was mix of happiness even within the hard knocks the family took. There’s just misery with The Connors with no element of success at all. And the writing for Jackie is particularly bad. Waste of Laurie Metcalf’s time and talent.
Wasn’t Dan fighting foreclosure of his house??? How can they afford a big wedding
Why?????????
Picture this: It’s The Conners series finale. Dan wakes up with Roseanne in his bed. He looks at her and says, “I had a dream that you died and I married Peggy Bundy from Married… with Children.” Roseanne cackles, “she’s way out of your league”. Cue the theme music. The End.
Spot in
The new show is like a bad tryout of a play, filmed to figure out how to fix it, and show people what bad acting looks like.
A steal from The Bob Newhart Show. 😕
Great idea . Now that sounds and make sense .they should bring Roseanne back that way..I totally agree..
@Kristy! Love this! Are you a writer?
I want Roseanne Barr back
awful show! would never watch it after you canned Roseann…. the only funny one on the show
While I didn’t like how the Roseanne character evolved, not just in the reboot, but in the later years of the show when she became kind of mean, I still love watching early Roseanne and that’s the character I miss. I miss the chemistry that Dan and Roseanne had, especially in the early days of their show and even though changed, it still saddens me to think of Roseanne Conner as dead.
While Louise seems like a nice person, she just seems so wrong for Dan. Their relationship doesn’t feel natural like Dan and Roseanne’s did. It almost feels forced, as if it was created so that the viewers would move on and stop thinking about Roseanne…but it just makes me think about Roseanne even more. Dan and Louise’s wedding doesn’t make me happy, it just reminds me of happier days gone by, never to return and that makes me sad.
Lol @ the haters while this show remains one of the highest rated comedies on network tv #EffRoseanne
