A man was life-flighted to Billings last week, after his gravel truck crashed and rolled on Wyo. Highway 32 near the Big Horn/Park County line.
The crash occurred around 1:15 p.m. on Sept. 7, near Big Horn County Lane 20 in the Penrose area.
Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper Danny Hite said the truck drifted off the road “for an unknown reason” and the driver overcorrected. The truck then spun counterclockwise, tripped and rolled onto its side, skidding across the pavement, Hite said.
The vehicle slid into the borrow ditch — as did the dump bed, which detached in the crash — and rolled another quarter turn onto its roof.
When the equipment came to a stop, the driver unbuckled his seat belt and got out of the truck on his own power, Hite said. However, the man appeared to have a head injury, the trooper said, and he was flown by helicopter from the scene to St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings.
The truck, owned by Mountain Construction, was rendered inoperable by the crash, Hite said.
An employee who answered the phone at Mountain Construction’s main office on Tuesday said the incident was still under investigation. Information about the man’s condition was not available.
