HOUGHTON — Add another game to the Northern Michigan University hockey schedule.

While this exhibition game won’t count on their overall record, let alone their record in the newly formed Central Collegiate Hockey Association, it will be against Michigan Tech.

The new game, which both schools announced Tuesday, is just 2 1/2 weeks away on Saturday, Oct. 2, at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena at MTU in Houghton.

The NCAA Committee for Legislative Relief approved a waiver for the game, part of a policy this year allowing collegiate hockey programs to schedule exhibitions against one another instead of just against clubs outside of NCAA Division I such as Division III schools or Canadian clubs as Northern has done in the past.

The Wildcats and Huskies are still scheduled for their usual four games against each other — all in the CCHA — in a pair of home-and-home series on Nov. 12-13 and Jan. 21-22. The Saturday game in November and Friday game in January will be played at NMU’s Berry Events Center.

On Oct. 2, the exhibition is scheduled to start at 7:07 p.m. and has free admission for MTU season ticket holders along with active students through Experience Tech. Season ticket holders have until Sept. 29 to secure their seats.

Otherwise, tickets will cost $20 for adults and $10 for youths.
