SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Freshman
Caroline Fredey won the D singles flight for the Holy Cross women's tennis team, as it opened the season at the Union Invitational.
Fredey posted a perfect 3-0 record in singles action to win the D flight. She defeated Kate Hirnak of Union 6-0, 6-1 in the first round, before downing Jolee McCluskey of RPI in the semifinals. Fredey then defeated Paige Tromblee of Union 6-3, 6-1 in the final match to win the title.
Senior
Maddie DeNucci finished as the runner up in the A singles flight. She downed RPI's Lorna Flores 6-2, 6-3 in the first round, then took down Gracie Nicol of Union 7-6 (2), 2-6, (10-6) in the semifinals. DeNucci was edged by RPI's Alex Mednikova 6-2, 4-6, (10-6) in the championship match.
In doubles action, Fredey and freshman
Courtney Kallas finished as the runners up in the B flight. They downed Gabby Gatto and Paige Tromblee of Union 8-2 in the first round, then defeated Natalie Cipriano and Jolee McCluskey of RPI 8-3 in the semifinals. Fredey and Kallas finished the weekend by falling to Brooke Bauer and Sonya Khudyakov of RPI 8-2 in the finals.
Holy Cross returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 16, when it travels to Mount Holyoke at 6:00 p.m.
