Tom Hanks is not usually known for choosing sci-fi related projects, but the 2-time Academy Award winner is set to step into a post-apocalyptic world for his next movie, Finch.

Apple TV+ has now shared a new poster for the movie, which is set to premiere on the streaming service on November 5. Hanks plays a dying inventor who creates a robot named Jeff (Caleb Landry Jones) to care for his beloved pooch Goodyear when he's gone. Finch, who might well be one of the last men on Earth after a cataclysmic event, then takes his unlikely family on a perilous journey to the American west.

Originally titled BIOS, the film was scheduled for a theatrical release before being pushed back multiple times by the pandemic. After the most recent delay, Universal sold the movie to Apple, and it was retitled for a streaming debut.

Check out the poster below along with a more detailed plot synopsis, and let us know if you plan on checking out Finch when it hits Apple TV+ later this year.

"In Finch, a man, a robot and a dog form an unlikely family in a powerful and moving adventure of one man’s quest to ensure that his beloved canine companion will be cared for after he’s gone. Hanks stars as Finch, a robotics engineer and one of the few survivors of a cataclysmic solar event that has left the world a wasteland. But Finch, who has been living in an underground bunker for a decade, has built a world of his own that he shares with his dog, Goodyear. He creates a robot, played by Jones, to watch over Goodyear when he no longer can. As the trio embarks on a perilous journey into a desolate American West, Finch strives to show his creation, who names himself Jeff, the joy and wonder of what it means to be alive. Their road trip is paved with both challenges and humor, as it’s as difficult for Finch to goad Jeff and Goodyear to get along as it is for him to manage the dangers of the new world."

What a lame title. BIOS isn’t much better but it’s better than that

Does a man & his dog count as a family?

Either way it's Tom Hanks, if he can make you care about a Volleyball, we'll buy anything.

Also between this, Call of the Wild and Togo, grizzled actor and dog seems to be it’s only mini sub-genre these days

I think I’m the only person who isn’t a fan of Hanks…

@Cap1 - yeah idk the whole Tom Hanks as America’s Dad thing never worked for me. He doesn’t seem particularly nice or sweet. Especially when he raised someone like Chet Hanks. I’m not a fan of Tom Hanks at all. I like Tom Cruise better, at least he’s up front with his crazy beliefs and lifestyle. Why does Tom Hanks have to maintain this perfect image? It feels very inauthentic

@RichardGrayson - he's charming, and plays very likable characters on film and screen. He has an instanyly recognizable voice and delivery, which aids in his identifiablility, and people usually easily trust people they recognize. He isn't intimidating and easy to root for. Usually after you've rooted for someone, instictually you want good things for them.

Basically we're all very comfortable with him and he makes us feel good.

@RichardGrayson - He stopped on a jog in the middle of Central Park to take photos with this newly married couple, plus sat n drank with some dudes at a bar then took a photo with one of the dudes passed out. These are just 2 occasions that come to mind of him being the absolute man

@RichardGrayson - Why do you bring outside shit to a film? You say he can’t be good if he raised someone like Chet Hanks, what the hell does that have to with his performances? Also good people can raise shitty people since parents aren’t the only influence in a person’s life. Everything you mentioned about Hanks has nothing to do with film. No one has ever had a bad word to say about the man.. maybe just maybe he’s just a decent fella.

I feel as if I've had a fever and stayed home from school, and on TV that day was I Am Legend, Castaway, and Chappie. And I half watched all three through one eye half awake, and when I woke up my brain fused all 3 films and remembers it as whatever this mini series is.

I want to watch it it, but there is no way in hell I am subscribing to yet another streaming service just to watch it. Between Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO Max and Disney+ I am tapped out. I think these streaming service need to start offering PPV style a la carte "rental" options or something

"FINCH"?!?!?! ... What an absolutely unimaginative and boring title. Who decided that? This is like those working titles until you come up with a better name. They could've done better.

JohnCastillo - 9/16/2021, 6:21 PM
@EgoEgor - I mean you could say the same for any “name of the character” film title.. Rocky, Rambo etc. I don’t mind them myself.
EgoEgor
EgoEgor - 9/16/2021, 6:43 PM
@JohnCastillo - It just seems unimaginative. Imagine if they called "Blade Runner", "Rick" instead. For a sci-fi series, it should just be a little more imaginative and indicative of what the show is about.

Even still, Rocky and Rambo are way more attention grabbing than Finch. They have more personality. And the original Rambo was called First Blood, which popularized the name, a much better title. I imagine most people who would see this poster and title would probably forget they it an hour later. It doesn't say anything about the show and doesn't grab attention. It's really bland.

@EgoEgor - Fair enough I get your point. Marketing wise you’re probably right. For me I’ll be watching this regardless so I just hope it’s great.. I love these kinds of stories, hope it makes me cry 😂. But yeah I can agree that “Finch” is bland.
