The Knicks’ roster is stronger, but their place in the Eastern Conference standings may end up being weaker. That’s the latest scouting consensus on the 2021-22 Knicks.

“The new players coming in, they got better,” one Eastern Conference scout said. “But several teams in the East got better. So you get better as a team, but will it show up in the standings?”

Last season, Tom Thibodeau’s Knicks tied the Hawks for fourth place in the East at 41-31 and won the tiebreaker for home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. But several teams that finished behind them — think: the Heat, Celtics, Bulls and Hornets — appeared to improve with flashier offseason adds.
