The No. 10 Green Level Gators handed the No. 12 Middle Creek Mustangs their first loss of the season by a 2-1 score on Wednesday night.

Braden Anghie scored two second half goals to run Green Level's record to 5-1-1 and 1-0-1 in 4A Southwestern Wake conference play as the Gators look to battle for their first conference title as a program.

The Mustangs entered play with a record of 5-0-1 and a 27-5 scoring margin throughout the year.

The home team controlled the game early, as the first half went by scoreless with the Gators unable to capitalize on their edge despite one chance that would have given them a lead rolling harmlessly along the Middle Creek goal line.

In the second half, Anghie got the scoring started after taking a drop pass in the attacking third and booming home a deep shot from distance.

Middle Creek got the game tied up again around 10 minutes later when a favorable bounce allowed a Mustang to put the ball into the back of the net to tie it up.

It didn't take long, though, for the Gators to regain control. The hosts drew a penalty about three minutes after the Mustang equalizer, and Anghie stepped up and converted the penalty to make it 2-1.

Middle Creek had a free kick from a dangerous area with a minute and a half to play, but that proved to be the visitors' best opportunity to tie the game back up before the Gators ran out the clock.

Green Level will look to boost its conference record again on Monday on the road at Apex.

Middle Creek's next opportunity to get back into the win column will come on Monday at home against Green Hope.
