While speaking with Audacy’s Nicole Alvarez, Antonoff shared, that “one of the things that compelled me to write music was what I was getting from music.”
The Bleachers frontman noted that regardless of what the music was truly written about he was able to derive meaning that allowed him “to feel bold enough to get through what I was going through.”
He sites, “I feel like Joni Mitchell has talked me through things that I wouldn’t have been able to get through.”
The famed producer behind albums like Lorde’s Solar Power, tells us that he chose to turn music into a career because he views it as a cycle, sharing, “it’s not like giving back necessarily, but it’s just sort of… how you know how to communicate.”

“It’s very circular. I feel like I give something to my audience and I feel like they give it back to me. I write a song and then it means something to me…then I see what it means to them and then it comes back to me in a different way, and it’s very conversational.”
