CARROLLTON, Texas – SMU's Haskins Award Watch List candidate, Noah Goodwin had his best round of the young season, shooting a 2-under 70 to pace the No. 21 Mustangs during the final round of the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational.
 
Goodwin, who had 18 par-or-better rounds in 24 tries in the 2021 season, posted his first of the 2021-22 campaign, racing down the stretch with three birdies in his last four holes to complete a 3-under back-nine, the tougher loop at the 7,280-yard Maridoe Golf Club. Goodwin had five birdies on the day, giving him a total of 11 for the tournament, as he tied for 37^th at +10.
 
Holden Wisener picked up the Mustangs' best individual finish of the tournament, checking in at the tie for 23^rd at +6. Wisener turned in a 5-over 77 with a strong finish, going -1 on his last four holes. It was Wisener's SMU debut, and it marks the sixth straight year that a player finished in the top-25 in their SMU debut.
 
As a team, the Mustangs finished ninth in a field that included 13 teams either ranked or receiving votes in the initial GCAA poll. No. 7 Oklahoma won the team title at -3, while Arizona State's Cameron Sisk defeated Texas Tech's Baard Skogen in a playoff for medalist honors after tying at -7. SMU had a final-round score of +13, finishing the tournament at +31 and two strokes in front of No. 8 Wake Forest.
 
Ollie Osborne tied for 26^th, using four birdies Wednesday to shoot a 4-over 76. Osborne tied Goodwin for the team lead with 11 birdies during the 54-hole tournament, and finished at +7.
 
Nathan Petronzio closed with five straight pars to go +1 coming in at Maridoe Golf Club and posted a final-round 78. Petronzio tied for 52^nd at +15. Prescott Butler went -1 on the front nine, but finished with an 8-over 80, tying for 48^th at +14.
 
The Mustangs return to action September 27-28 at the Old Town Club Invitational hosted by Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
