Don’t look for Mike Trout to return to the Los Angeles Angels lineup this season, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register:

Mike Trout is with the #Angels in Chicago and he continues to work out in hopes of coming back, but Joe Maddon conceded that it’s probably not happening this season. No surprise there. There aren’t enough days left.

Trout, the pride of Millville, N.J., last played on May 17. Before going down with a strained calf, the 30-year-old was hitting .333 with eight home runs in 36 games. Originally, he was expected to miss six-to-eight weeks, according to ESPN.

“The guy is so wanting to be out there,” Maddon said. “In-game, he’s on every pitch. He comes over and discusses things with me over the course of the game. He’s totally engaged. ... I don’t expect him to play today or tomorrow or anytime soon. He’s upbeat as he can be.”

The injury will end Trout’s streak of nine consecutive seasons finishing in the top five for American League MVP Award voting. He won the award three times: 2014, 2016 and 2019. Trout was runner-up in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2018.
