While we're seeing a slow decline in new Covid-19 cases, Lane County Public Health warned Wednesday that another surge is still possible.
Public Health says another surge may happen because as we head into fall, more activities will likely be hosted indoors and in close proximity, which equals an increased possibility of transmission.
Also, only 64% of Lane County's total population has received at least their first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Public Health says there are more than 93,000 eligible people who are not vaccinated.
"We can absolutely still see a dramatic case surge," said Jason Davis with Lane County Public Health. "We don't have enough protection from the vaccine. We don't have enough protection from natural immunity to say we are out of the woods for surges."
Even as cases slowly go down there will still be a lasting impact on hospitals.
A hospital stay could be as short as a few days or as long as a month, meaning there will still be a strain on the number of available beds.
Also, someone could end up needing go to a hospital several days after they test positive.
