Rays: 3, Blue Jays: 6 - Robbie Ray and Bo Bichette sting the Rays

Rays were looking to take the rubber match against Toronto, get the magic number down, and take one step closer to an AL East title.

Spoiler, that didn’t happen.

Things did not get off to a good start as a misplayed ball by Randy Arozarena and a walk on a squeezed pitch put two runners on with 1 out, and brining Bo Bichette to the plate

Blue Jays take a very early lead in the 1st inning. Struggles didn’t stop there as in the 3rd inning, with runners on second and third, Bo Bichette AGAIN hit a sac fly and gave the Blue Jays a 4-0 lead.

The Rays offense? Wasn’t really competitive against Cy Young contenter, Robbie Ray, but still had their chances. In both the 2nd and 4th inning, the Rays had runners on second with nobody out, but couldn’t string together enough hits to make any progress.

The Rays’ first run came in the top of the 5th inning courtesy of Mike Zunino.

However, by the end of the inning, the Rays’ were in an even bigger deficit, with a Bo Bichette and Teoscar Hernandez singles to score two more runs and give the Blue Jays a 6-1 lead.

Despite all of that, Michael Wacha still went 6.0 IP giving up 7 H, 6 R, 2 BB and 5 Ks.

Additional Rays’ runs came too little too late in the top of the 8th inning. Taylor Walls singled and Brett Phillips hit a 3-2 pitch to center field for a 2-run HR.

That would be your final as Rays fall 6-3.

A few notes:

• Although Wacha gave up 6 runs, he did give some rest to the A-bullpen. Adam Conley and Nick Anderson came in for the last two innings and struck out three with no walks and no hits.
• Taylor Walls had an amazing defensive stop in the 4th inning. Helped soften the sting against some.. questionable defensive plays earlier in the game

Rays will look to get back on track against the Detroit Tigers (again?) at home. Game time is 7:10 PM. Louis Head will open against Tyler Alexander.
