A shortage of truck drivers is now creating a long list of issues for businesses, drivers and delivery companies.
Both business owners and truck drivers said the shortage still has to do with the pandemic.
“You can't get drivers and everything delivers by truck,” said delivery truck driver John Murphy.
Murphy said he’s now working longer hours and it’s all because his company, like many others, are seeing a shortage of truck drivers.
“Unless, I guess, the rate goes up for the pay for the drivers, it will be hard to get them back,” said Murphy.
But he said it’s not just money that’s deterring drivers, some of them are out because of COVID-19.
“Then there's that 14-day period so it just makes it worse,” said Murphy.
And with drivers out, local business owners said they are taking a hit.
“We were told by one of the largest distributors in the United States that as of three weeks ago they were no longer able to support us small businesses,” said Michelle Smith.
Smith is not alone, Marrakesh Mediterranean Manger Angel Dorantes said they’ve had to take dishes off their menu.
“We 86 it, which is code for not having it or being out of it, for about two or three days until we try to get it back,” said Dorantes.
Restaurant owners said if this continues, they’ll run into more issues and Murphy agrees.
"We’ll be in trouble come winter time, trying to get products to the stores, so the major big companies are really trying to get drivers,” said Murphy.
For now, businesses owners and drivers said they are just waiting and hoping the situation changes soon.
