(KNSI) — The Minnesota State Patrol says a 34-year-old Cokato man was killed Wednesday morning after being hit by a semi.

A report from the state patrol says about 2:30 a.m., a Kenworth semi that was pulling a grain hopper was the right lane going east on Highway 12 at Morrison Avenue Southwest in Cokato when they saw a pedestrian standing in the lane directly in the path of the semi. They say the driver, 56-year-old Gregory Nelson of Dassel, braked hard and attempted to take an evasive maneuver, but the pedestrian was hit.

First responders took lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
