Where is the first place you should check out?

Hike to Ferncliff Fire Tower, Rhinebeck, 68 Mt Rutsen Rd, Rhinebeck, NY 12572

While there are many trails for you to check out, the hike to Fire Tower is less than two miles. The trails around the area are great too, be careful to stay on the path. There is one spot that if you are not careful, you will be walking on private property. Just look for the signs.

How about a Hike to Poet's Walk, Red Hook 68 Mt Rutsen Rd, Rhinebeck, NY 12572

The hike is just about 2 miles, and beautiful. I have even seen people get married at this little nook.

Hike legendary Burger Hill, 9G, Rhinebeck 3158 NY-9G, Rhinebeck, NY 12572.

Burger Hill is great, because it is also know as THE PLACE to go sledding in winter. The hike is a short one, only about 1 mile from parking lot to summit. While you are here, make sure to check out the cool new historic sign, marking the are that was once known as the Violet Belt.

Hike at Falling Waters Preserve in Saugerties Dominican Ln, Saugerties, NY 12477.

The hike is fairly straight forward, only about 2.5 miles round trip, however you do get a magical nature bonus on this hike as it includes two water falls.

The lighthouse is from the 1860's, fairly easy hike about 1-1.5 miles, plus it is a great place to relax with the family and its a lighthouse! Score.

Hike for history buffs, Top Cottage in Hyde Park, 98 Valkill Dr, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

Park on Route 9G at the Val Kill Historic Site, then follow the trails, because even though their website says Poughkeepsie, I am pretty sure that it really is located in Hyde Park, so check your GPS. There are two trails on this site. One that takes you in a big circle and one that takes you up to the Cottage. The Cottage path can be a bit to navigate, but totally worth it when you get to the top.

Hike what the local's call 9-0-9, or the Taconic Hereford MUA Trail, Pleasant Valley, NY.

This one doesn't have a specific address that you can put into the GPS. Head north on the Taconic State Parkway, there are signs (which are kind of easy to miss) just past Pleasant Valley, NY. The few times that I have been on it, you will want to be aware of the bikers on the path. Mountain bikers that is.
