With training camp set to begin at the end of September for the Boston Celtics and the league’s 29 other teams, most mock NBA trades being published these days are focusing on in-season deals.

NBA Analysis Network’s Kenneth Teape came up with one that sees the Cs land a long-time target who should be available at the moment.

That’d be none other than Kristaps Porzingis.

Check out Teape’s deal:

"Boston Celtics Receive: C/F Kristaps Porzingis, G Trey BurkeDallas Mavericks Receive: C Al Horford, G Dennis Schroder, F Aaron Nesmith, 2022 First-Round Pick, 2024 First-Round Pick"

The primary value being returned in such a deal for the Dallas Mavericks would be the C’s 2022 and 2024 first-round draft choices as well as Aaron Nesmith, Boston’s 2020 lottery selection.

That said, both Al Horford and Dennis Schroder would provide short-term help for Luka Doncic while not clogging the cap for future pursuits for the Mavericks.

Dallas has long been a team linked to some of the top stars on the free agent market year in and year out, but they have not been successful landing those headlining names the past few summers.

In fact, the biggest free agent deals tend to be from players they traded for. Tim Hardaway, who was acquired in the Porzingis deal with the New York Knicks, just signed an identical $72 million deal to the one they traded for originally handed out by NY in 2017. Porzingis himself received his generational wealth from Mark Cuban and the Mavericks front office.

This deal gives Dallas a chance to swing for the fences with another trade–with two first-rounders and a bright prospect heading their way–but it also sets them up for the future as well.

NAN has certainly published questionable deals in the past, but this Porzingis mock trade is far from that label.

Next. Should the Cs actually pursue Kristaps Porzingis?. dark
