Interviews for next Marshall president held; list of recommended finalists to be presented later this month

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Marshall University Presidential Search Committee conducted interviews this week with candidates for the president’s office, in which committee members emphasized addressing ways to advance the institution.

Search Committee Chair Patrick Farrell on Wednesday published a letter updating the campus community on the search process.

“The Marshall University Presidential Search Committee conducted 16 face-to-face candidate interviews this week at an off-site location. A majority of the candidates represented at least one measure of gender, ethnic or racial diversity, and came from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds,” he said. “We had wide ranging discussions that focused on Marshall’s mission and student success.”

The questions focused on topics such as interest in the position, generating revenue, supporting faculty and connecting with Marshall alumni.

The Search Committee is reviewing the candidates with the intent of presenting a list of finalists to the Marshall Board of Governors Executive Committee on Sept. 30. On-campus events with the finalists will take place during the week of Oct. 11, which will be public.

The next president will succeed Jerome Gilbert, who previously announced he will not seek a contract extension once his current agreement expires in July 2022.
