One day removed from California’s defeated recall of Gov. Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles and Contra Costa counties announced they would be requiring proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test results for residents and visitors to enter indoor establishments.
Contra Costa County issued its mandate on Tuesday with an effective date of Sept. 22. for all individuals aged 12 or older..

Wednesday, Los Angeles County previewed a similar measure during Wednesday’s Board of Supervisor meeting.
The Contra Costa mandate covers indoor restaurants, bars, and gyms. Los Angeles County’s does not mandate, but merely recommends, proof of vaccination for indoor restaurant access.
Instead the Southland mandate will cover indoor bars, wineries, breweries, nightclubs and lounges along with proof of vaccination or negative COVID test for outdoor events exceeding 10,000 people, Health Director Dr. Barabra Ferrer said on Wednesday.
The prospective order will require customers and employees at the indoor nightlife establishments to have at least one dose of vaccine by Oct. 7 and receive their second by Nov. 4.
The Tuesday announcement places Contra Costa County on-par with the City and County of San Francisco and City of Berkeley in requiring vaccination for entry into indoor establishments.
