Student slashed in face at Bronx high school

A 15-year-old boy was slashed in the face in the crowded hallway of a troubled Bronx high school Wednesday on the third day of classes, sources said.

The violence erupted at 1:40 p.m. at DeWitt Clinton High School on Mosholu Parkway during a suspected gang dispute, cops said.

The assailant, also 15, attacked the other boy during a period changeover on the school’s second-floor as shocked students looked on, sources said.

The alleged slasher pulled out a blade that evaded the school’s metal detector and cut the other teen on his chin and neck.

The building was briefly placed on lockdown as the teen was rushed to Montefiore Hospital in stable condition.

The suspect ran from the scene and is being searched for by police, sources said.

Greg Floyd, the head of the city’s school safety agents union, said parents should ready themselves for volatile year inside Department of Education buildings.

“It’s been more than a year since these schools were full of students,” Floyd said. “And now the violence continues.”

The building was briefly placed on lockdown.

DeWitt Clinton was a participant in Mayor Bill de Blasio’s controversial Renewal School program, which showered struggling schools with more than $700 million in an effort to turn them around.

Critics decried the initiative for producing little tangible improvement at high cost and it was disbanded in 2019.

While it boasts a roster of famous alumni including James Baldwin, Ralph Lauren, and Burt Lancaster, Clinton has faltered badly in recent decades.

The Bronx school has been plagued by chronic violence, gang problems, and grading scandals.

In 2019, a 16-year-old DeWitt student was slashed outside the school after being interrogated about his gang affiliations.

“The safety of students and staff is our top priority, and NYPD and EMS immediately responded,” said DOE spokesman Nathaniel Styer. “We’re taking additional safety measures at the school and working closely with NYPD as they conduct an investigation.”
